Autism Awareness 101 Video Series

The Autism Awareness Video Series is a resource for students and adults. This video series is an
interactive, user-friendly, online environment that offers an informative description of autism, including
common characteristics of autism, identification of social interaction difficulties, dealing with difficult
situations, how individuals with autism communicate, and tips on supporting individuals with autism.

-Identify common sensory processing difficulties that people with autism struggle with as part of their daily lives

Objectives

  • After completing Video 5 – Common Characteristics: Restricted & Strong Interests, participants will be able to:

    -Identify how people with autism may present  themselves when they act in restricted ways or show strong interests in certain area of their lives

    -Recognize how to re-direct people with autism to help them to move through restricted or strong behaviors

    -Recognize the similarities and differences between “normal” interests in things that people enjoy and restricted and or strong interests that people with autism may exhibit in social situations

-Identify ways to adapt the environment to avoid potential sensory triggers and enhance the experiences for persons with autism in the social situations

-Create an autism-friendly environment using the tips and strategies learned in the “Autism Awareness 101 Video Series”
